If you should wish your child to be baptized in the Basilica of St. Peter & Paul’s Cathedral, you would be most welcome. The monthly Baptism Service is held every last Sunday of the month at 8.00 AM. This Baptism Service is conducted in Dutch. Unfortunately separate, private baptisms are not possible

Parents should contact the secretariat no later than two weeks before the baptism date. They should bring with them a birth certificate or similar official government document. A Catholic godparent is required, while two godparents are certainly a good idea. Be sure to verify the spelling of the names of the godparent(s). We ask a fee for baptism of SRD 35,-.

The celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage will be one of the most important days of your life. It is possible for couples of which at least one of the two is Catholic, and neither one has been previously married, to celebrate their wedding in the Basilica of St. Peter & Paul’s Cathedral (and yes, if so desired, in English).

Couples must contact the secretariat at least two months before the desired wedding date if they live in Suriname, and at least three months if they live abroad. The secretariat will inform the couple of the necessary documents and of the house rules for a wedding in the Basilica.

We ask a contribution for a wedding of SRD 1750,-, which includes the organist and decoration. Additional decoration is possible, but this needs to be discussed well in advance with the secretariat.

To request a funeral (if desired, in English) in the Basilica, one should contact our secretariat. As a general rule the deceased ought to be Catholic, but at times there are exceptions. The rector of the Basilica makes final decisions in these matters. For funerals, we ask a fee of SRD 1750,-.
